Changes of oxidant-antioxidant parameters in small intestines from rabbits infected with E. intestinalis and E. magna

Rabbit coccidiosis is a very serious disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Eimeria, which increases production rate free radicals, especially reactive oxygen species. When generation radicals exceeds scavenging capacity body’s antioxidant system, oxidant-antioxidant balance broken, resulting in oxidative stress. This study was designed to investigate effect on status rabbits infected with E. intestinalis and magna. To this end, eighteen 30-d-old weaned were randomly allocated into three groups as follows: infection group 3×103 sporulated oocysts intestinalis, magna 20×103 magna, uninfected control group. We measured activities superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) total (T-AOC) contents malondialdehyde (MDA) rabbits’ small intestinal tissues (duodenum, jejunum ileum) groupson day 8. The results showed that CAT activity MDA levels significantly increased, while SOD, GSH-Px T-AOC decreased after infection. Besides, ileum particularly damaged rabbits. It concluded pathological stress occurs during process disrupted.
